Sustainability that can be explained

"Sustainable" is on almost every product today. On packaging, in advertising campaigns, on glossy flyers. But what really lies behind it? Sokradle's product range offers an answer that can be verified: recognized environmental certificates and transparently communicated selection criteria.

Certificates that really mean something

The most reliable way to distinguish greenwashing from genuine sustainability is through independently verified environmental certificates. They are not self-awarded but must be earned through demonstrable standards. The product range includes products with one or more of the following seals:

Blue Angel

The Blue Angel is the world's oldest state environmental label, established in 1978. It is awarded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment and now covers over 120 product categories, from furniture and cleaning products to electronics and building materials. Those who bear this seal have demonstrated that their product causes less environmental and health pollution over its entire life cycle than comparable alternatives.

EU-Ecolabel

The EU Ecolabel, recognizable by the characteristic Euro flower, is the official environmental label of the European Union and is valid in all 27 member states. It has been awarded since 1992 and ensures that certified products meet strict ecological requirements, from production to use and disposal. Over 100,000 products now bear this seal, including furniture, cleaning products, paints, paper, and personal care products.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the state sustainability seal of the Nordic countries, supported by the governments of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Since 1989, it has been considered one of the strictest environmental certificates worldwide. It is tested in over 60 categories based on holistic criteria: climate protection, resource efficiency, freedom from harmful substances, and circular economy. The requirements are reviewed and regularly tightened every three to five years.

Cradle to Cradle

Cradle to Cradle asks a different question than most eco-labels: not how waste can be reduced, but how a product is designed from the outset so that it can be fully returned to the cycle at the end of its life. Products with this seal are rated in five categories: material health, circularity, energy generation, water stewardship, and social fairness. Certification is awarded at Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels and must be renewed every three years.

Products without seals that are still convincing

Certificates have a practical limit: they cost money. Not every manufacturer that produces truly sustainably can afford an elaborate certification process. This says nothing about the actual quality of a product.

Therefore, the range also includes products without an official seal, which are selected based on specific, verifiable criteria. The decisive factors are whether the products are produced in Europe, thus eliminating unnecessary transport routes, whether natural, low-pollutant or recycled materials are used, whether the manufacturers work with renewable energies or can demonstrate resource-saving production, and whether measures for reducing packaging waste or reusing materials have been implemented.

Ultimately, it's not about a logo on a package, but about what actually happens when a product is manufactured, used, and disposed of.
